I liked the visitor center and the three floors dedicated to the story of the bathhouse. It explains everything and you can see how it was back then in those bathhouses. It is also free.
The park is a good mix for families rather than avid backpackers and hikers. It has easy hikes / paved walkways for those who are just satisfied with a taste of nature before they hit the bath houses.
Beautiful foliage in the fall. The quaint town nestled in the park has a rich history--from the springs being place of healing for Native American tribes to meet in peace, to being a hideout for Al Capone.
This place is awesome! Miles of hiking trails through mountains and forests right in the middle and within easy walking distance of historic downtown. Plenty of wonderful places to eat both local flare and national chains. Unique shopping opportunities from original art and pottery to curious and nicknaks. Do have to mention the hot springs baths that the city is named for? All only a few minutes from two large lakes one of which is the cleanest in the country. Big town opportunities with a small town feel.
Nice park in the northern edge of town. It has Bathhouse Row, which includes the visitor's center and museum, a bookstore, and functional bathhouses. There's also plenty of hiking trails up the mountain, and an observation tower. This park caters to both nature lovers and history bluffs (and bathers, of course). You can also bring a container and fill it up with spring water from a few water kiosks around the park. We loved our visit to this park.
Was on my list. I understand the history and all of this place. But for me it is not a national park. It is more a national historic monument or something.
The fact that it is the oldest park currently in the national park system is impressive. I always thought it was Yellowstone.
Fantastic place to visit for people of all ages! The Park Rangers are wonderful. So much to explore and learn. You can even sample fresh spring water. Free parking is available. The local community is also a fun place to visit.
If you are in the area you should definitely stop by but I would not recommend to go there especially for the national park. There are a few trails and a small scenic drive but it is short. The city is nice tho.
