-Atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. Very much like the German restaraunts that we ate at when we lived in Germany.
That's when things really became surreal. The older lady approached us aggressively and said, "this is not your table and you know it. You're welcome to sit at the other table, or you're welcome to leave." I'm baffled as to why this would be a problem. There were numerous empty tables.
My Pros and Cons:
Pros:
On Saturday, November 18, 2017, I had the worst customer service experience of my entire life at Steinhaus Keller in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I'm still stunned by the events that occurred.
We like to support local businesses. And we tip well. I've been a patron at this establishment for over twenty years through at least three owners. We've been regular customers for ten years now. In fact, the location has been a "go to" location for birthdays and celebrations. Not any more.
-Be prepared to wait for at least an hour or more for your dinner. For 4 meals, we waited about an hour and 20 minutes.
Very good authentic German food and extensive German beer offerings. Place is below ground level and resembles a castle celler. One of my favorite places to eat and have fun. Good for groups and larger parties.
-We had ordered dessert, and it never came. So we gave up, payed and left.
She then picked up some menus and walked away saying, and I quote, "you can be nice or you can not sit." We weren't sure quite what to do, so we waited until a younger lady approached us and asked us to follow her. We were seated behind a large brick columns which completely obscured our view of the band.
I even contacted the owners via Facebook before posting this review. No response after waiting three weeks.
After living in Germany this was a cool experience. The atmosphere was decent and did remind me of being in Germany. The Yeager Schnitzel was OK but nothing like the German Schnitzel I remember from Bavaria. Would go back but food authenticity is a little off.
Before the young lady left, I asked her if the older lady at the front was the manager or owner. Her response was, "I think the she's the mother of the owner." I then asked if I could speak to the owner. The younger lady agreed, then walked away.
-Both my husband and I ordered schnitzel (2 different toppings). Both were very dry, and not appetizing. Nothing like the schnitzels in Germany!
We absolutely love this restaurant! We went a few months ago and the wait times have improved. The food was super delicious and we can't wait to go back this weekend!! Also, you've gotta go on a Friday or Saturday when the band plays German polka music. It just adds something awesome to the already great atmosphere. This will definitely be our place to go eat way more often. Yum!
Overall, I’d give it a 2 out of 5.
Right next to us was an empty table that was being cleaned. It provided a full view of the band. I asked the employee who was cleaning the table if it would be alright for us sit there. He agreed and told us he would notify the server.
My wife and I had reservations at the restaurant Saturday, November 18, so we could enjoy the final performance of a local band.
I told her we liked the table we were at because we could see the band. She repeated that we were welcome to sit at the other table or leave. We were stunned by her behavior and attitude, yet did not argue or treat her with the same contemptuous attitude she displayed toward us. I'm almost certain that neighboring customers heard what she said, and the way in which she said it.
-The Lamb/Beef burgers are great.
-The bread was very dry.
When we arrived, the older lady at the front asked us numerous times to repeat our name. We thought maybe the music was just loud and that she could not hear us so, after repeating our name a number times, I spoke a bit louder. She repeatedly told us she didn't have our reservation, and asked if it may under another name (why would my reservation be under a different name?). Maybe speaking a little louder offended her(?). She finally found our reservation.
-Portions are HUGE
-Waiters and staff are VERY friendly and welcoming!
Sensing that this situation would not resolve itself, and that I would not have the opportunity to speak with the owner, we stood to leave as I asked the old, rude woman for her name. She told me it was "Michelle" and that I was welcome to mention that in the review.
If the older woman, Michelle, is an employee, she should be fired. If she is a partner the owner should buy her out before she destroys the business.
