I have stayed at the Happy Hollow twice. My motorcycle club "Pipe Hitters Union MC" takes an annual trip to that area. Michael is always helpful and accommodating. I will definitely be staying there Everytime I am in the area.
Stayed here for 3 days in August and had 2 great nights. Our first night was in room #10 and the room was infested with bed bugs. The bedding is all white so they were covered in blood spots in the morning from the feeding. We had seen one on each bed earlier but assumed they were ticks. We never pulled the bedding off or we would have never slept in the room. The manager was cool and moved us to the larger room #3. They said they were going to be heat treating the room which is good. The location is what you're paying for here and what will actually bring me back. The trails are across the street and the fountain is up the road. Perfect location for walking around. The room was good but the a/c unit needed a cleaning, the closets were full of stuff, and the hot water takes forever but otherwise this is a great little place. With a few bits of TLC and this is a 5 star place.
We reserved a large room well in advance of our trip. We called twice to confirm the room reservation and to inform the motel that we would be arriving late (per motel's online instructions). When we arrived, our room was given away. As we tried to secure any room at all with them, the host was more inclined to sit outside and smoke a cigarette than to get me and my family (young kids) into a bed after a long drive. The room was tiny, there were dead bugs on the bed covers, spiders in the bathroom and two holes in the walls in the bathroom. We immediately found another place to stay and will never be returning.
Location can't be beat for the price! The room was clean, beds were comfortable, and Michael (the Innkeeper) was awesome. The A/C didn't get very cold, unit probably needs to be cleaned. That said, I hope the owner will invest some money in exhaust fans for the bathrooms, and repair of the tilework - there was a big hole in the wall under the bathroom sink, and as to the exhaust fan, when you've been in a car all day and have a kid in diapers, yeah... I would definitely pay a little bit more for a room with a bathroom exhaust fan.
We stayed at the Happy Hollow for 4 days while in town for a conference. The location and price were fantastic, and the rooms were well kept and comfortable. The innkeeper was very kind, and you could really tell he cared about the place. We would happily stay again!
